The following communities are part of the Blue Water Region and are interspersed between and around our shoreline towns. These cities, townships and villages add amenities and activities to the region along with a great sense of community.
Emmett Township is a rural township located in St. Clair County. The Township started as an Irish settlement with agriculture as the primary industry. Here, you can get in touch with nature, relax and enjoy Emmett KOA’s beautiful 40-acres of large wooded sites. Visit the Brennan Memorial Nature Sanctuary or the Sunny Fields Botanical Park, where you will find different kinds of plants in the tranquil and unique surroundings.
Fort Gratiot Township
Rich in history, Fort Gratiot was originally home to historic Fort Gratiot, named after General Charles Gratiot who established a military fort in the early 1800’s. Adjacent to Port Huron, Fort Gratiot Township is now home to the largest commercial shopping corridor in St. Clair County, comprising the Birchwood Mall and many strip malls along M-25. Find locally owned and operated business and restaurants alongside national stores and major chain restaurants. Fort Gratiot Township also has nature preserves, trails, ponds, bike paths, parks, beaches, and recreation areas. Fort Gratiot has plenty for people to enjoy all four seasons.
Grant Township is approximately 15 miles northwest of Port Huron and 5 miles west of Lake Huron. The Township covers 29.8 square miles and is home to more than 1,840 residents. Agricultural land use comprises 69% of the township's land area. The township also includes 1,370 acres of the Port Huron State Game Area, which borders the Black River as well as a 10 acre township park and a few private or semi-private facilities which include: Silver Trails Boy Scout Camp and the 4-Square Hunt Club.
Goodells is located in Wales Township, west of Port Huron. This rural community is a home to the Pine River Nature Center and the Goodells County Park. The Pine River Nature Center has one of the State’s only universally accessible tree houses and offers many educational opportunities for all ages. The Goodells County Park provides many events and activities throughout the year including the Goodells County Fair and houses a historical village, butterfly garden, sledding hills, playground and splashpad.
Visit Jeddo for one of Michigan’s favorite and freshest attractions…orchards! Jeddo is known for its orchards and berry farms. Marvin's Garden produces the latest varieties of red raspberries and blackberries. You-pick fall raspberries are available August-October. McCallum Orchard offers apples, cherries, peaches, plums, raspberries, grapes, pumpkins, donuts, jams, jellies and cider. They have a real farm atmosphere perfect for family fun. Shady Shores Winery is located at McCallum’s and invites you to taste the sweet pleasures of fruit wine…apple, cherry, raspberry, peach, pear, dandelion, pumpkin and rhubarb.
The community of Lakeport is situated between Port Huron and Lexington, along the shores of Lake Huron. It is home to the Lakeport State Park. The park provides access to Lake Huron. The park has a total of 250 campsites with picnic tables, fire circle, electricity and modern toilet/shower buildings. Lakeport also offers great vacation houses and cottage rentals. The surrounding areas offer many tourist amenities.
Memphis is one square mile and was named after Memphis, Egypt, "the City on the Nile." Memphis straddles the county lines of Macomb and St. Clair Counties. Golf a championship course at the Belle River Golf and Country Club. Every hole is unique, and more than half of the holes confront water. A great time to experience Memphis is during its Memphis Festival Days and Blues Festival. Both events offer great family fun.
The quaint city of Yale occupies approximately one square mile, it is surrounded by Brockway Township, a largely agricultural and farming community. Yale is considered unofficially as the Bologna Capital of the world. Each week hundreds of fresh smoked Yale Bologna rings are made with great pride as C.Roy, Inc. continues its heritage and history as the original makers of Yale Bologna. Every year, over the last full weekend in July, thousands of visitors enjoy the food, fun and activities available at the community sponsored Bologna Festival hosted by the City of Yale and the Yale Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sarnia, Ontario CANADA
Sarnia is Port Huron’s Canadian neighbor, located on the eastern side of the Blue Water Bridge. Also being on the St. Clair River, it holds picturesque marinas and miles of scenic, sandy beaches.The concert and theatre scene is vibrant and creative with productions from both professional and community companies. There are also delicious dining options.
